Thank you to everyone for supporting my festival by buying a raffle ticket or two. The winner was Russell Blakey from Birmingham, I am looking forward to posting photos of his Elephant in pride of place in a few weeks.
I finally have some sketches to show you! My idea is to incorporate water into my carving as well so I have him spraying water from his trunk-I still have to iron out the details but hopefully this gives you some idea as to what I have in mind!
Some of you may remember my mermaid from last year and if not then here's a picture
You will be pleased to hear that I have finished my carving of a mermaid figurehead. She measures 17 inches in length, 7 inches wide and stands 12 inches high.
Well I am making steady progress-between my commissions!
Thank-you to everyone who has bought a raffle ticket so far, here are the latest set of photos of my carving of a mermaid in the form of a ship figurehead.
Well as promised here are some photos of the progress of the raffle prize. For a mere £2 this carving of a mermaid figurehead could be yours..... I am carving a piece of Tetbury limestone, from Veizeys Quarry. It started as a block 19 x 12 x 10 inches but obviously as I carve into the stone it will get smaller-and lighter! Here are the first images, one of the design itself and the drawing on the stone. Although I am working from my imagination I have made a sketch, from this sketch I made a template which I can draw around to ensure I have the same dimensions as it still has to fit within the confines of the block of stone.
