Stone carvers

These are just a few images from last year.

Here is some info about some of the stonemasons who took part this year.

Richard Bossons and Rita Dawe, are self employed masons carvers and letter cutters located near Stroud. They have over 20yrs experience working with period and ecclesiastical buildings, on broad range of restoration and conservation work. They also produce hand drawn and cut lettering to commission and individually designed sculptural pieces. email: richard.carving@virgin.net

Pippa Unwin is a freelance mason carver based in Shaftesbury, She attended Bath college of Stonemasonry and apprenticed at Salisbury Cathedral. Her work varies widely from restoration to sculpture commissions.

Scott Fisher operates out of his workshop in the Forest of Dean. He concentrates on new build and restoration projects. Heavy emphasis is placed on using traditional building skills, methods and materials. For more info visit: www.darkhillstonemasonry.co.uk

Mike Gardner has been a stonemason for 5 yrs, he moved away from Devon to work for St whites stone based in the Forest of Dean and the East Midlands to gain a wider knowledge and improve his skills.

Sebastien David served a 6yr apprenticeship with the French Craft Guild, the ‘Compagnons du Devoir’ he worked different stones and techniques travelling through France as a Journeyman. Sebastien has a great interest in Sculpture which is something he is developing in his private workshop near Stroud. He will be taking part in the Stroud open studios. He arrived in England 10mths ago and currently works at Gloucester Cathedral.

Ghislain Puget trained as a stone mason/carver 20yrs ago in France working on Cathedrals and historic monuments. He studied sculpture at the Beaux Arts in Paris. After he graduated Ghislain moved to London to be with his girlfriend. Since 2002 he has been teaching sculpture and stone carving at the City and Guilds London School of Art.
